rolling out a thematic aquaculture program to help secure supplies of protein-rich ingredients for the Free Nutritious
Meals (MBG) program while boosting local economies. Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono explained that the program was
designed to integrate aquaculture into village economies, helping fish farmers increase production and secure broader
market access. “Through institutional strengthening and partnerships, aquaculture yields will have market
certainty and support the provision of free meals for the public,” he noted in a press release cited in Jakarta on
Monday. As part of the initiative, the ministry is developing a catfish aquaculture estate using biofloc technology in
Blora District, Central Java. Trenggono said the project comprises 24 biofloc ponds, each measuring four meters in
diameter, with the aim of promoting more efficient and sustainable catfish cultivation. He added that the catfish ponds
are projected to supply protein to four MBG kitchens, officially known as Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs).
The government, he continued, considers it important to build stronger connectivity between aquaculture zones and SPPGs
to empower fish farmers and strengthen ingredient supply chains for the national priority program. He further noted that
the fisheries program is also expected to generate greater added value in the aquaculture sector, increase
people’s income, and contribute to the national food self-sufficiency agenda. “We hope for this cultivation
model to be replicated in various regions with respect to their respective potential and leading commodities, allowing
its economic and social benefits to reach more communities,” Trenggono remarked. The program is part of the
ministry’s strategy to develop fish farming in productive, efficient, and sustainable areas through the
integration of production, marketing, and output utilization to support food security. Related news: Indonesia tightens
