(ANTARA/Pexels/Yan Krukau) Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s communications ministry plans to reactivate its game

rating system later this year after overhauling its policies, following a suspension triggered by incorrect age ratings

displayed on the Steam gaming platform. The age-based Indonesia Game Rating System was suspended in April after public

scrutiny over incorrect ratings displayed on Steam, a major global game distribution platform. “There will be

adjustments, as the evaluation is being thoroughly conducted, covering not only the system architecture but also the

policy aspects,” said Tita Ayuditya Surya, head of the ministry’s Game Ecosystem Development Team. “We

cannot announce the exact timeline yet, but it will definitely be completed this year,” she told reporters

Saturday. After the suspension, the ministry formed a special task force to review the system’s operational

procedures and governance. The government has expanded the review to industry groups, including the Indonesian Games

Association, and ministries such as the Creative Economy Ministry and the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection

Ministry. Surya said parenting community representatives were also consulted, stressing that public input was important

because the rating system directly affects children who play games. During the suspension, the ministry has assured the

public and gaming industry that it will not block or restrict access to unrated games currently available in Indonesia.
