The area under sowing of all kharif crops has reached near 88 per cent of the season’s normal area while deficit from
the year-ago level has narrowed to less than 2 per cent as of August 7. Read more here.2. India’s overall pulses
acreage has almost caught up with last year’s levels, aided by a recovery in monsoon rainfall across several states.
As per the latest data, overall pulses area as of August 14 was 108.14 lakh hectares (lh), a tad lower than 108.49 lh in
the corresponding period a year ago. Read more here.3. El Nino’s onset last month poses a threat to a range of
agricultural commodities, from rice and wheat to cocoa, palm oil, sugar and robusta coffee, across the world. However,
the threat will vary from crop to crop rather than impact crops uniformly, analysts have said. Read more here.4. Rice
